Cr Tammy Galvin was elected to as one of Narrandera Shire Council's nine (9) Councillors in September 2016.
Tammy spent much of her childhood and teenage years ‘on the roads’ Droving with her parents. This incredibly unique experience of living life at the grass roots level has shaped Tammy’s aptitude for networking and bringing people together by strategic resourcing on shoe-string budgets.
Tammy believes that we are just scraping the surface of showcasing personal skills, attributes and talents of the women of Western Riverina NSW. Tammy drives to raise the profile of farming business women for their leadership role to be valued as one of their own personal assets in the farm portfolio.
This passion was instrumental in Tammy founding the Women of Western Riverina Networking group to facilitate connection, support and inspiration between the women in all parts of western Riverina.
Her own journey to owning farming land at Gillenbah with her partner, John Hodgetts and being an equal business manager concreted the notion that women of the land truly are multi-skilled yet undervalue themselves.
Tammy’s understanding of how interconnected farming, biosecurity, biodiversity, emergency management and Landcare are can be attributed to her Droving days and over 16 years of rewarding natural resource project management roles with Riverina Local Land Services (LLS) and previously Murrumbidgee CMA (Catchment Management Authority), the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), and Snowy River Shire Council.
Tammy’s most recent role as Riverina Fruit Fly Campaign Coordinator demonstrated to her how communities rely on building of strengthened relationships to set and achieve common goals and resilience. Tammy’s appreciation of the cultural diversity of Riverina grew during this role.
Tammy is a member of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) and the Women’s Network Australia. She shares the drive to recruit many young women to this giving organisation as CWA are tremendously generous with community support.
Tammy looks forward to working with the women of Western Riverina and beyond in developing and honing in on their leadership values.
