Narrandera Shire Council’s General Manager, Mr George Cowan, has officially advised the Mayor and Councillors of his intention to retire from the role, effective 16 September 2025.
Mr Cowan joined Narrandera Shire Council in 2017 and has served the local government sector for nearly 50 years. His distinguished career began in 1972 with Casino Municipal Council. Apart from a brief period between 2013 and 2017, Mr Cowan has dedicated his professional life to local government.
Reflecting on his time in Narrandera, Mr Cowan said, “It has been a really satisfying time in Narrandera and I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. I believe the future for Narrandera and Narrandera Shire is bright with many positives to look forward to.”
Mayor Neville Kschenka acknowledged Mr Cowan’s contributions and leadership over the past eight years.
“Under Mr Cowan’s leadership, Council has achieved a great deal, from significant infrastructure upgrades and improved community engagement to advancing key economic development opportunities,” Mayor Kschenka said.
“His commitment to good governance and the community has left a lasting legacy, and we thank him for his service.”
Council will commence the recruitment process to appoint a new General Manager at its meeting next week.
