Brendan Leary leds discussion

Narrandera Shire Council recently held community consultations in Grong Grong, Narrandera and Barellan as part of updating key planning documents.

These discussions were the first in a series that will inform the development of key plans and residents will have opportunities to contribute through a quick survey that is now being promoted.

In coming days ratepayers will see a QR code which links to the survey inside the same envelope as their rate instalment notice or water consumption account.

Within 5-10 minutes, participants will be able to influence the shape these plans being made for the next decade.

The process is being led by Sea & Star Advisory, who have been contracted by Council to facilitate and collate comments from the community.

Brendan and Alicia Leary directed discussion at the community consultations to explain the process of developing a new Community Strategic Plan and Disability Inclusion Action Plan, as part of legislated requirements for local government.

“We brought in Sea & Star to help ensure that Council see detailed comments from Narrandera Shire residents,” said George Cowan, General Manager of Narrandera Shire Council.

“They are skilled facilitators and adept at teasing out discussion from the community about the strategies identified in the previous plans, with a view to including the aspirations of all residents in our future activities.”

While both plans have an influence on shaping the Shire, the Community Strategic Plan is a the most significant document with a scope of at least the next 10 years.

Every activity of Council links back to this plan, which is evidenced in the four-year delivery programs and the annual planning and reporting.

“The Plan needs to reflect where the Shire wants to be in the next decade, as it will be the map that directs the processes and Council activities, with progress reported back to both Council and the community in achieving the goals it outlines.”

Look for the QR code in Council’s Community Newsletter and advertisement in The Narrandera Argus, then use the camera in your digital device (such as mobile phone or tablet) to be directed to the online survey.

“Remember to use either the camera or a QR code reader, but definitely not the Service NSW app,” said Mr Cowan.

“We hope that residents are familiar with the QR code concept to access the information and, if there are any difficulties, please contact Council for a paper-based version of the survey.”
