Audit Risk and Improvement Committee

The objective of the Committee is to provide independent assurance and assistance to the Council on risk management, control, governance, internal audits, organisational performance and external accountability responsibilities.

The Committee’s objectives are supported by Section 428A of the Local Government Act 1993, to keep under review the following operations of Council :

  • compliance
  • risk management
  • fraud control
  • financial management
  • governance
  • implementation of the strategic plan, delivery program and strategies
  • service reviews
  • collection of performance measurement data by the council
  • any other matters prescribed by the regulations.

Under the Act the Committee is also to provide information to the Council for the purpose of improving the Council’s performance of its functions.
 

Expressions of Interest Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) - Independent External Members

Narrandera Shire Council is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to serve on its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).

The ARIC is an advisory committee to Council comprising 1 Councillor (non-voting ARIC member) and up to 3 independent members (voting ARIC members) – with 1 of the independent members to be elected as the Chairperson of the Committee.

Independent members will be remunerated at the rate of 75% of the Councillor’s monthly meeting fee for attendance at the ARIC meeting held in that month – the current ARIC meeting fee would be $805.50.

The ARIC will meet at least 4 times per financial year and will provided independent assurance, oversight and assistance to Council in the areas of risk management, governance, financial reporting and performance.

Council encourages people with the necessary skills, experience and expertise in one or more of the following disciplines to apply:

  • Corporate governance
  • Accounting, financial management and financial reporting
  • Risk management
  • Local government/public sector administration
  • Internal/external audit
  • Information systems and technology
  • Asset management
  • Audit committee/board membership.
