Delegations

The Local Government Act 1993 and other relevant legislation authorises the elected Council to undertake a range of functions, and confers a large volume of powers to perform duties imposed upon Council.

Many decisions in relation to these functions and powers are made in formal Council meetings by way of resolution. However, section 377 of the Local Government Act 1993 allows the elected Council to delegate certain powers, duties and functions to the Mayor, Council committees, and the General Manager.

The General Manager can then sub-delegate powers, duties and functions to other Council employees. This facilitates the effective delivery of Council's operations and services on a day-to-day basis.

Council is required to maintain a register that records delegations that may be sub-delegated by the General Manager to staff to undertake the daily operations of Council. This is in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Government Information (Public Access) Regulation 2018.
