Parking regulations

While we don't generally issue fines for timed parking, our compliance team responds to complaints and safety concerns about vehicles parked illegally or causing obstructions.

When can I be fined?

You may receive a fine if your vehicle is

  • A heavy or long vehicle parked in a built-up area for more than an hour
  • Parked on a path or nature strip
  • Parked in a marked 'No Parking' or 'No Stopping' zone
  • Parked within 10 metres of an intersection

Legislative changes

The NSW Government's reforms to the parking fines system came into effect on 1 July 2025. Councils are now required to

  • Attach a parking fine or notification to the vehicle (except in limited circumstances)
  • Provide photographic evidence of the offence to Revenue NSW
  • Issue fines within seven days of the offence if no notification was attached
  • Publicly report data on parking fines issued.

These changes aim to restore fairness and transparency to the parking fine system across NSW.

Narrandera Shire Council will continue to monitor the implementation of these reforms and provide quarterly updates as required.

New reporting requirements

Council is required to report on parking fines issued each quarter, in accordance with the Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Act 2024 and the Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Regulation 2025.
