Roads and traffic

Council's Works section is responsible for the task of planning and maintaining the extensive road network and assets across the 4115 square kilometre area of Narrandera Shire.

Works Program 2024-27

Road closures

Temporary road closures occur for various reasons such as construction or maintenance, wet weather, planned events and unplanned incident responses.

Closures are in place for safety reasons and Council seeks the cooperation of drivers in adhering to the road closures. Driving on roads closed due to wet weather can cause significant damage, and it is also an offence where penalties can apply.

Council will advertise road closures on this website and Council's Facebook page in accordance with the Roads Act and Road Regulations.

Footpaths and cycleways

Council has an Active Transport Plan (ATP) that provides a strategic approach to enhancing pedestrian and cycling opportunities. There is a particular focus on urban areas where the highest level of active transport occurs.

Road maintenance

As well as maintenance of road surfaces, Council Works team also manages maintenance of line-marking, signage, guideposts, potholes, vegetation control, kerb and gutter repair, shoulder, associated drainage, footpaths and street sweeping activities.

Special events

Transport for NSW (TfNSW), NSW Police and Council have a process for approving special events. This will apply to your event if it is expected to impact local vehicular traffic or local pedestrian traffic, and/or will be conducted on-road.

Applications are considered by the Local Traffic Committee (LTC) before being referred to Council. All applications for special events must be submitted at least three months prior to the event to allow for this process.

TfNSW has information, including a Special Event Traffic Management Plan template (TMP) available to download from the TfNSW website. This document is designed to provide the information needed to assess your application.

For further information regarding special events please contact Council's Events team. Email council, or phone 02 69595510 or visit during office hours Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm.
