Events, festivals and exhibitions

Council supports a wide range of community and commercial events across Narrandera Shire. If you're planning an event that involves council-owned land or venues, infrastructure, or promotional channels, the following outlines the approval requirements and processes, promotional pathways, and support available to event organisers.

What's the difference between hosting an event and hiring a council venue?

'Hosting an event' refers to an activity open to the public or with the potential to impact the broader community. This includes festivals, markets, exhibitions, community events, and ticketed or un-ticketed public gatherings.

Hiring a council venue refers to the use of a council-owned facility for activities like meetings, functions, family celebrations, and private events that are not open to the general public.

Different application and approval processes apply depending on the nature of your activity.

How do I hire a council venue for private use?

Private venue hire is generally suitable for activities not open to the public and that do not require broader event approvals.

If you wish to hire a council venue for private use, council has an online booking platform coming soon! In the meantime, please email or phone council to book.

Please note that venue hire does not automatically include event approvals where these may be required.

How do I apply to host an event on council property?

If you wish to hold an event on council-owned or managed property, you must submit

  • An event application form
  • A risk assessment

These documents allow council to assess safety, suitability, and compliance requirements. Additional approvals or documentation may be required depending on the nature and scale of the event. Council will advise as part of the assessment process.

Do I need approval if my event involves traffic management or road closures?

Transport for NSW (TfNSW), NSW Police and Narrandera Shire Council have a process for approving special events. This will apply to your event if it is expected to impact local vehicular traffic or local pedestrian traffic, and/or will be conducted on-road.

Applications are considered by the Local Traffic Committee (LTC) before being referred to council. All applications for special events must be submitted at least three months prior to an event to allow for this process.

TfNSW has information, including a Special Event Traffic Management Plan template (TMP) available to download from the TfNSW website. This document is designed to provide the information needed to assess your application.

For further information regarding special events please contact council's Events team by email, phone or visit during office hours Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm.
