Free, Fresh & Fit

The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Free, Fresh & Fit program aims to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by reducing the prevalence of Nicotine use.

The funding is for undertaking multi-level approaches to tobacco control, which combine a range of evidence-based tobacco control activities to meet the needs of different population groups within a region.

The Free, Fresh & Fit team consists of 9 TIS workers, based in 3 sites: Griffith, Orange and Albury and a Coordinator.

Our activities take a community health promotion approach which aims to inform and support people in their decisions not to smoke/vape or to quit smoking and vaping.

These activities will:

• Encourage community involvement in and support for local tobacco control activities

• Increase community understanding of the dangers of smoking, vaping and chewing tobacco and the links between tobacco and chronic disease

• Improve knowledge, skills and understanding of the health impacts of smoking/vaping and pathways to quitting among workers and community leaders

• Promote the benefits of never becoming a smoker or vaper

• Seek to reduce environmental smoke/vapour and exposure to passive smoking and vaping

• Improve access to targeted support to quit through clinical and non-clinical services
