After a career in the Royal Australian Air Force, David first came to Narrandera about 25 years ago when he accepted the Sous Chef position at the Gateway Motel.
It was meant to be a short stay before returning to South Australia, where David originates from. After some months at the Gateway, a two and a half year lease of the Murrumbidgee Hotel kitchen was next followed by eighteen months at the Narrandera Bowling Club as club caterer. It was here that David met his current partner, local girl Suzanne Appleby. Together they purchased the freehold of the Morundah Hotel in 1997, which they still run today. They have two children, Hannah and Max who were both schooled in Narrandera.
David previously was the Deputy Mayor of Urana Shire Council and had been an elected Councillor on that Shire for 12 years until the forced amalgamations in May 2016. David has many years’ experience in Local Government and has continued to educate himself in this regard. David has successfully completed his Masters in Local Government at the University of Technology Sydney.
David believes that with proper community consultation along with sound policy, good planning and working together with the community of Narrandera, the whole shire can benefit, grow and prosper.
David does not have any particular pet projects, but is open to listening to all ideas and suggestions from the community and budding entrepreneurs. “Narrandera Shire has great potential to improve and enhance what it has, it also has great potential for growth and I look forward to being involved in the processes and procedures to realise that growth by working with the community as an elected member of Narrandera Shire.”
